The old asphalt is hauled out and gravel and topsoil moved in. By the end of the day Thursday, three bioswale retention ares had been dug and filled  with gravel and topsoil. By the end of tomorrow, weather permitting, we will have trees, shrubs and grasses along the edges of the lot. We will have turned a bleak landscape into an urban forest. It's getting warm again, but the crew is nearly finished with demolition and has begun grading the lot. Today they dug the three deep holes that will serve as bioretention swayles. Tomorrow they are going to haul the old asphalt away for recycling, then spread gravel on the lot and start to fill in the swayles. Planting soon, I hope! by the way, that blue building in the back is Onondaga Commons, home to our good neighbors, Rural Metro.

The roses were originally closer to the house, but my cousin Bill, when he built the wheelchair ramp in 2007, moved them to this location, where they have prospered. These rosebushes are so productive that every room at the Spa has fresh roses throughout the spring! You're going to love it.

Today the crew dug the...
